Therapy Day 1

“I am different, not less”

Dr. Temple Grandin – Professor of Animal Husbandry, Colorado State University.

When my daughter started her therapy I was prompted to document everything so as to track her progress. I thought to myself this may also be useful to someone else. I know that every child is different and these methods may or may not have to same results.

Intentions

Work with the therapist to help Mei

Happenings

Mei’s first therapy session started on February 19, 2022, with Aunty Ann. She began by massaging Mei with lotion for about 15 mins using a pull-push method on her knees, toes and arms.

She also advised us to do this evenly on both sides at least one time for the day but recommended when she wakes up before her nap and before bedtime.

In the event that the child stiffens up or gets frustrated. Give her a toy to distract her or sing a song till she relaxes then continue.

Mei was then introduced to some new toys. Her favorite seemed to be the Ferris wheel, baby doll and ball.

Aunty Ann played give and take with Mei until she got frustrated. The session ended in 1 hour.

Challenges & Solutions

💡 A few challenges this session were after a few minutes

ChallengesPossible Solutions
Mei seemed to get frustrated and wanted to move around.Get desks and chairs to limit movement and improve concentration
She bit down on toys and her fingers when she got angry. Possibly because she was sleepy and hungry. For the next session hoping to address those challenges by feeding and ensuring Mei has had adequate rest.
Wasn’t interested in the alphabet or numbers.better flashcards or maybe wooden or foam letters or numbers
Mei was afraid of some toys and she ran awayto remove unwanted toys
